Karl Wente is part of the Wente family, who have been involved in the wine industry for over 135 years. The family's roots in winemaking go back to the 1800s when Karl's great-great-grandfather, C.H. Wente, founded the Wente Vineyards in Livermore Valley, California. Karl Wente received his formal education in viticulture and oenology from the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1999.
